About Bang Bao Pier & Fishing Village
Bang Bao is an old stilt fishing village strung along a long pier at the southwest tip of the island. These days it's half working village, half tourist market, lined with seafood restaurants, dive shops and souvenir stalls. It's also the main jumping-off point for island and snorkeling boat trips, so odds are you'll pass through here anyway.
The souvenir stalls can feel touristy, no way around it. But the stilt-house setting is atmospheric and the fresh seafood is the real reason to linger.
Come in the late afternoon, eat seafood as the sun goes down over the water, and you'll get the best of it.
Highlights
- Atmospheric old stilt fishing village on a long pier
- Fresh seafood restaurants over the water
- Main departure point for island and snorkeling boats
- Dive shops and souvenir stalls
Tips
- Come late afternoon for a seafood dinner and sunset over the water
- The souvenir stalls lean touristy, the seafood and setting are the draw
- You'll likely pass through here for any snorkeling day trip
- End of the west-coast road, so budget travel time from the beaches
How to get there
At the southwest end of the island, end of the west-coast road. About 35-45 min by songthaew from the ferry piers (roughly 100-150 THB). This is also the main departure point for island and snorkeling boats.
