About Out Thailand

Out Thailand is a guide to living, working, and travelling in Thailand, run by a small team based in Chiang Mai. We started with Chiang Mai and now cover cities, islands, and routes across the country: cost of living, getting around, where to stay, food and drink, things to do, festivals, visas, and the day-to-day of settling in.

Guides are published under the Out Thailand Team byline rather than individual names. The team researches, writes, and edits every guide together, so no single person is the author of any one page. Each guide shows the date it was last updated.

Why you can trust it

We're independent. We're not a booking platform or a travel agency. Where we quote a price, a route, a schedule, or an opening time, we check it against the official source (transport operators, immigration, government notices) and link to that source at the end of the guide. Prices are in baht, usually with a US dollar conversion and the date of the exchange rate used. If we get something wrong, we want to know. Email hello@outthailand.com and we'll fix it and update the date.

How we work

Every guide starts from a real question people ask about Thailand. We draft it, check the facts against official and primary sources, review it as a team, and publish. We revisit guides when something changes on the ground, such as a visa rule, a ferry timetable, or a festival date, and we say clearly when something is our own opinion rather than a fact.

How the site is funded

Some guides link to hotels through Agoda. If you book through one of those links we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We may also show ads. Neither affects what we write or which places we recommend.
