About Jim Thompson House
A leafy, shaded oasis smack in the middle of central Bangkok, and one of the city's better antidotes to temple fatigue and heat. It's the teak-house compound and art collection of the American who revived the Thai silk trade before famously vanishing in 1967, and the mystery gives the place a bit of intrigue on top of the pretty surroundings.
Because it's cool and green, it makes an ideal midday break when the sun is punishing. You enter the house on a short guided tour, so you can't just wander it alone, but the tours are quick and worth it. There's a good cafe and a silk shop on site if you want to linger.
It's central and dead easy to reach from the BTS, so it slots into almost any Bangkok itinerary without effort.
