Phuket International Airport sits at the north of the island. Patong is on the west coast, about 45km away over a hill. Nothing about that trip is fast, but you can pay anywhere from ฿100 to ฿2,500 for it, so it’s worth knowing the options before you walk into arrivals.
Prices are in Thai baht (THB), current for July 2026. Sources are linked at the bottom.

Smart Bus: ฿100
The Phuket Smart Bus runs down the west coast from the airport, stopping at the main beaches including Patong. It’s ฿100 per ride, air-conditioned, and by a wide margin the cheapest way in.
The cost is time — 60 to 120 minutes depending on stops and traffic — and luggage space, which is limited. With a backpack and no schedule, it’s a perfectly good option. With two large suitcases after a long-haul flight, less so.
Shared minivan: ฿120-200
Shared minivans run ฿120-200 and take 60 to 90 minutes. They’re more direct than the bus and not much dearer.
The catch is that they wait to fill before departing. On a busy afternoon that’s a few minutes; on a quiet evening it can be a long sit in the car park watching arrivals boards.
Grab vs. the fixed-rate desk: check both
This is the one genuinely useful thing to know about this route.
Grab typically runs ฿600-900 and takes 45-75 minutes. But it surges hard at peak arrival times, and can push past ฿1,000.
The airport’s fixed-rate limousine taxi is ฿800 flat — no surge, no negotiation. A metered taxi runs ฿700-1,050 including the mandatory ฿100 airport surcharge.
So: open the Grab app while you’re waiting for bags. If it’s quoting under ฿800, take it. If it’s surging above that, walk to the fixed-rate desk. Ten seconds of checking regularly saves ฿300.
Private transfer: ฿1,500-2,500
Pre-booked VIP vehicles — Toyota Alphard, Mercedes Vito and similar — run ฿1,500-2,500. That buys a driver waiting with your name, proper luggage space, and no queueing.
It’s the right call for a family, a group splitting the fare three or four ways, or anyone landing late. On a per-head basis with four people it’s close to two taxis, and considerably less hassle.
Arriving late at night
The Smart Bus doesn’t run through the night. Shared minivans need other passengers before they’ll leave. Grab availability thins after midnight while prices rise. If your flight lands after about 23:00, pre-book a private transfer or use the fixed-rate desk — this is the one scenario where the cheap options genuinely don’t work.
Which should you pick?
Travelling light and unhurried: the Smart Bus at ฿100.
Most arrivals: check Grab, and if it’s over ฿800, use the fixed-rate limo desk.
Family, group, or a late landing: pre-booked private transfer.
