About Warorot Market (Kad Luang)

Warorot is the real deal, a big daytime market where locals actually shop, not a market dressed up for tourists. You'll find northern-Thai food, snacks, textiles, and everyday goods here rather than souvenir stalls.

It's worth going for exactly that reason, it gives you a look at how the city actually shops and eats. Go in the morning if you want the food stalls at their freshest, this is a working market that runs most of the day, not a night market built for visitors.

It's an easy walk from Tha Phae Gate, or a short songthaew ride if you'd rather not walk.

Highlights

  • Northern-Thai food stalls and snacks
  • Textiles and everyday household goods
  • A genuinely local, non-touristy shopping scene
  • Easy access from the Old City near the Ping River

Tips

  • Go in the morning for the freshest food, some stalls open earlier and close earlier than others
  • Remember this is a working local market, not a tourist night market, so pace your expectations accordingly
  • It's about a 15 minute walk from Tha Phae Gate, or a cheap songthaew ride if you prefer
  • An hour to an hour and a half is enough time to wander the stalls properly

How to get there

Walk ~15 min from Tha Phae Gate; songthaew ~30 THB
