About Chiang Mai Night Bazaar
The Night Bazaar is the big nightly market east of the Old City, and it's a mixed bag. It's convenient, it's lively, and it runs every night of the year, but it's also very touristy, with plenty of souvenir stalls and knock-offs, and vendors can be pushy.
It's worth a visit if you want a market experience without waiting for a specific day, since it's on year-round unlike the weekend walking streets. Just go in ready to haggle, and don't expect anything particularly local or authentic here.
It's a straightforward walk from Tha Phae Gate, or a short songthaew ride if you don't want to walk in the evening heat.
Highlights
- Souvenir stalls and food courts running every night
- A covered, permanent market rather than a weekly pop-up
- Bargain shopping if you're willing to haggle
- Easy access just east of the Old City moat
Tips
- Haggle hard, prices here are set expecting it
- It runs every night year-round, so it's a good backup if you miss the weekend walking streets
- It's about a 15 to 20 minute walk from Tha Phae Gate, or a cheap songthaew ride
- Keep expectations realistic, this is more about convenience than authenticity
How to get there
Walk ~15-20 min from Tha Phae Gate; songthaew ~40 THB
