About Saturday Walking Street (Wualai)
This is the Saturday counterpart to the bigger Sunday market, running along the old silversmith street on the south side of the Old City. It has a bit more of a local feel to it than Sunday's version, less overwhelming, still full of stalls and food.
It's worth doing, especially if you're around on a Saturday and want a walking street experience without quite the same crush as Sunday night. Same format, smaller crowd.
Start point is Chiang Mai Gate on the south side, and from there it's just a walk down Wualai Road.
Highlights
- Stalls along the historic silversmith street
- A more local, less crowded feel than the Sunday market
- Food and craft vendors the length of Wualai Road
- Chiang Mai Gate as the starting landmark
Tips
- It only runs on Saturdays, so check the day before you plan around it
- Head down from around 5pm for a comfortable amount of time before it winds up
- It's a straightforward walk from the Old City south gate, no need for transport
- Expect a calmer pace than the Sunday street market if that's what you're after
