About Lamai Beach
Lamai is the sensible middle ground. It's Samui's number-two beach, a long pale curve of sand that's a bit calmer and noticeably better value than Chaweng, while still having enough bars and restaurants that you won't feel stranded. For a lot of people it hits the sweet spot.
Don't picture it as a sleepy hideaway, though. The centre still has a proper party and bar scene, so if total quiet is what you're after, aim for the south end where the beach mellows out near the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks.
Mornings through midday are best for swimming. Overall it's a solid all-rounder: nicer prices than Chaweng, a similar amount of choice, and a slightly more relaxed feel.
