About Kata Beach
Kata is the reliable all-rounder. It's cleaner and mellower than Patong, palm-fringed and family-friendly, and it works for most people most of the time. Good swimming in high season, beginner-friendly surf in the shoulder months.
The little Ko Pu islet off the north end is a nice snorkel swim if you want something to aim for. Otherwise it's an easy beach to just settle into for a few hours.
If you want mellow without going fully remote, this is a smart pick.
Highlights
- Clean, palm-fringed sand with a relaxed family vibe

- Beginner-friendly surf in the shoulder months
- Ko Pu islet off the north end for a snorkel swim
Tips
- Come Nov–Apr for swimming, May–Sep if you want to surf
