About Chaloem Rattanakosin National Park (Tham Than Lot Caves)
Thailand's smallest national park, and a genuinely fun one for anyone who likes a bit of adventure. The whole thing is built around a walk-through cave system: you enter one cave, follow a forest trail past waterfalls, and come out through a big cavern at the other end. It's an actual hike, not a viewpoint.
It stays refreshingly uncrowded because it's remote and off most itineraries. If you want a nature outing without busloads of people, this delivers.
Bring a torch and shoes with grip, the through-cave trail is the highlight and you'll want both. Come in cool season when the path is cooler and less slippery than after the rains.
Highlights
- Walk-through cave system from one cave to another
- Forest trail past waterfalls between the caverns
- Thailand's smallest national park
- Refreshingly uncrowded and off the tourist trail
- A real adventure hike rather than a roadside stop
Tips
- Bring a torch, you'll need it for the through-cave trail
- Wear shoes with good grip, the trail can be slippery
- Come in cool season for a cooler, less slippery path
- Allow a half day for the full cave-to-cave loop
How to get there
