About Bridge over the River Kwai (Death Railway Bridge)
This is the one everybody comes to see, and it earns it. Walk out over the Khwae Yai on the surviving span of the Death Railway and you're standing on a piece of WWII history that Allied POWs and Asian labourers paid for in lives. It's free to cross, and the structure itself is quietly powerful.
Be honest with yourself about the setting, though. The strip right by the bridge is thick with souvenir stalls and floating restaurants, so the mood is more day-tripper than solemn memorial. Come for the bridge, not the shops.
To actually understand what happened here, pair it with the excellent Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and the War Cemetery, and, if you can, a ride on the Death Railway train. On its own the bridge is a photo stop; with that context it lands properly.

About 4 km north of Kanchanaburi centre. Songthaew or motorbike-taxi ~10 min / 40-60 THB, tuk-tuk ~80-100 THB, or a short local train ride from Kanchanaburi station.
