About Blue Pool & Emerald Pool (Thung Teao Forest)

The Emerald Pool is the star here, a turquoise spring-fed pool in the rainforest that is genuinely beautiful to swim in. That alone makes the trip worthwhile, and a short forest walk links it to the Blue Pool.

Manage your expectations on the Blue Pool, though. It is a look-only sapphire mineral spring, not for swimming, and it is sometimes closed or dried up. So do not make the drive purely for it.

The whole thing is a long haul southeast of town, best done as a half-day. Get there early to swim the Emerald Pool before the crowds arrive.

Highlights

  • Turquoise spring-fed Emerald Pool for swimming
  • Vivid sapphire Blue Pool (look-only)
  • Short rainforest trails connecting the two
  • Set in the Khao Phra Bang Khram forest

Tips

  • Come mainly for the Emerald Pool, it is the swimmable one
  • The Blue Pool is look-only and sometimes closed or dry
  • Arrive early to swim before the crowds
  • It is a long drive, plan a half-day

How to get there

~55–70 km / ~1–1.5 hr SE of Krabi Town/Ao Nang by car/taxi or tour; a forest walk connects the two pools
