About Bamboo Island (Ko Mai Phai)
Bamboo Island is a little gem north of Phi Phi Don, all powder-white sand ringed by a shallow reef. It is one of the easiest and best snorkeling stops in the archipelago, especially if you are a beginner in the water.
The reality is that it is a fixed stop on crowded Phi Phi tours, so you will rarely have it to yourself. It can also close in low season when the monsoon kicks up rough seas.
Quick trivia: the name is a mistranslation, the trees are casuarina, not bamboo. Either way, it is a genuinely lovely stop.
