About Wat Saket (The Golden Mount)
The Golden Mount is one of Bangkok's quiet wins. You climb a spiral staircase up an artificial hill to a golden chedi at the top, and the reward is one of the best 360-degree views over the old city. It rarely feels overcrowded, which is half the appeal.
Don't be put off by the step count. The climb is gentle, shaded, and there are things to look at along the way, so it's manageable for most people. Do it late in the afternoon when it's cooler and you can catch the city softening toward sunset from the top.
If you happen to be in town in November, the temple hosts a big fair around Loi Krathong that transforms the whole place, well worth seeing if the timing lines up.
