About Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
This is the one temple in Chiang Mai you shouldn't skip. It sits high on the mountain above the city, and you get there by climbing a long naga-flanked staircase, or riding the optional funicular if you'd rather save your legs, before reaching a gilded chedi that's genuinely striking up close.
The views over Chiang Mai from up here are the real bonus beyond the temple itself, and on a clear day they stretch out over the whole valley. It gets busy by midday, with tour groups working through their itineraries, so don't expect to have the place to yourself.
Go early morning or catch it at sunset instead, and you'll get a calmer, cooler visit. It's a bit of a trip from the Old City, so plan for it to take a chunk of your day, but it earns that time.
