About Wat Phanan Choeng
If you have had your fill of silent ruins, this is the antidote. A bustling, very much alive temple that actually predates the city, built around a huge gilded seated Buddha known as Luang Pho To. It is deeply revered, especially by Thai-Chinese worshippers, and the place runs on incense, devotion and crowds.
That is exactly why it is worth going. You see a living temple rather than a monument, with people making offerings and the whole space busy with worship. Come in the morning when it is at its liveliest.
Manage expectations in the other direction though: this is not a quiet contemplative ruin. If you want stillness, go elsewhere. If you want to feel a working temple at full tilt, this delivers.
