About Tham Lot Cave (Tham Lod)
This is one of the best day trips going from Pai, and worth the drive northwest. A river runs right through a vast cave, and you explore it by lantern light with a local guide, crossing sections on bamboo rafts. The chambers are genuinely impressive.
The real showstopper comes at dusk. Time your visit so you finish as hundreds of thousands of swifts pour back in and bats stream out, a natural spectacle that's hard to overstate. The mandatory guides and rafts also channel money to the local community, which is a nice bonus.
It's a fair distance out, so make the most of the trip and enjoy the Pai to Soppong scenery on the way. Do it by car, motorbike, or a combination of minivan and a local ride.

How to get there
About 50 km northwest of Pai near Soppong/Pang Mapha on Route 1095. ~1 hour by car or motorbike, or take a Pai-Mae Hong Son minivan and a local ride to the cave. A guided lantern walk (and optional bamboo raft) is required inside.
