About Phu Chi Fa
A cliff-top viewpoint right on the Laos border, famous for the dawn sea of mist rolling over the Mekong valley below. When conditions line up in cool season, it's one of the most spectacular sunrises in the country.
Timing is everything though. Come off-season or during the March to April burning season and you'll get haze and a flat, underwhelming view. This is a place that rewards going at the right moment and disappoints otherwise.
It's a long haul east on winding roads, so realistically you'll want your own vehicle or an overnight tour. The smart move is to stay somewhere nearby the night before and make the short uphill walk to the viewpoint in the dark to catch first light.
