About Doi Pha Tang

A border ridge looking out over the Mekong and Laos, with its own sea of mist at dawn and cherry blossoms in the deep of winter. It offers a similar payoff to Phu Chi Fa but tends to be quieter, which is a real plus.

Same honest caveat applies though, it's only really worth the long drive out in cool season. Outside that window the mist and the blossoms aren't there, and you've made a big journey for a lesser view.

December into January is prime time, for both the sunrise mist and the blossoms. Because it's so close to Phu Chi Fa, lots of people combine the two into one overnight trip east. Expect a short but steep climb up to the rock viewpoints.
