About Mrigadayavan Palace (Maruekhathaiyawan)
This elegant golden teak summer palace of King Rama VI is an underrated and genuinely peaceful contrast to Hua Hin's beach bustle. Sixteen airy pavilions on stilts are linked by long breezy walkways that run down toward the sea, and the whole place has a calm, graceful feel that rewards a slow wander.
It sits just north toward Cha-am and stays quiet, especially on weekdays, so it never feels overrun. For the price of admission and an hour or so of your time, it is a lovely change of pace.
Two practical notes. Modest dress is required, so cover up before you go. And it sits inside a working military camp, so follow the signs to the palace entrance and be respectful of your surroundings.
