About Mango Bay (Ao Mango)

Mango Bay sits on Koh Tao's far north coast, ringed with coral and packed with fish, and it's one of the island's top snorkeling stops. The shallow reef is easy to enjoy and the underwater scenery is genuinely underrated for how good it is.

Here's the reality check: because it's so good, it's a standard stop on nearly every boat tour, so it gets busy through the middle of the day. Come early, before the snorkel-tour flotilla arrives, and you'll have a much better time.

Most people arrive by boat, and honestly that's the way to do it. The overland route is a rough, very steep track plus a walk down at the end, so unless you're an experienced rider looking for adventure, let the boat handle it.

Highlights

  • Shallow coral reef with abundant fish
  • One of Koh Tao's top snorkeling spots
  • Remote northern setting reached by boat
  • Best underwater visibility in dry season

Tips

  • Arrive early before the tour boats pile in around late morning
  • Come by boat, the overland track is rough and very steep
  • By land through the resort there's an access fee, confirm locally
  • Best visibility is in the dry season months

How to get there

From the hub: easiest by longtail boat or a round-island snorkel tour (~550-1000 THB) as it's on the far north coast; overland by scooter is a rough, very steep track plus a ~300 m walk down.
