About Chatuchak Weekend Market

One of the world's largest weekend markets, and genuinely worth your time. Somewhere around 15,000 stalls sprawl across a maze of little alleys, selling clothing, art, crafts, plants, antiques and street food. Whatever you're after, it's probably in here somewhere, if you can find it.

And finding it is the challenge. This place is a labyrinth, and it's easy to lose track of a stall you liked. The trick locals use is to photograph the section signs as you go so you can navigate back. Bring cash and wear light clothes, because it gets hot and packed as the day wears on.

Come early on Saturday or Sunday for serious shopping before the crush. One thing to steer clear of: the live-animal section, which raises real welfare concerns. Skip it.
