Bangkok to Koh Lanta is a two-leg trip: get to Krabi, then get to the island. The flight leg is cheap and frequent. The second leg is where the planning matters, because the last shared minivan leaves Krabi Airport around 13:00 and a lot of people book an afternoon flight without knowing that.

Fly to Krabi first
Krabi International Airport is the gateway — Koh Lanta has no airport, and Krabi is considerably closer than Phuket. Bangkok to Krabi is one of the cheapest domestic routes in Thailand, with fares a little over €20 each way and numerous daily departures from both Bangkok airports.
Take the earliest flight that works. That single decision determines whether the rest of the day is easy.
Krabi Airport to the island: the ฿300-450 minivan
Shared minivans run from Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta for ฿300-450 per person, taking 2 to 4 hours. Public minivans sit at the top of that fare range; shared minivan taxis run around ฿300.
Why the two-hour spread? The route crosses to Koh Lanta Noi by car ferry, then takes a bridge onto Koh Lanta Yai. The driving is predictable; the ferry queue isn’t. In high season it can add well over an hour, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
The last departure is around 13:00. After that you’re looking at a private transfer at a much higher price, or a night in Krabi. Build the day around this, not around the flight schedule.
The speedboat option
The fastest routing is flight plus speedboat transfer: about 6 hours 44 minutes door to door for US$65-140. It’s a 45-minute drive from the airport, a 15-minute boat along the Lanta coast, then a car to your hotel.
It costs more than the minivan and skips the ferry queue entirely, which on a busy high-season afternoon is worth something. It’s also a considerably nicer arrival than a van park.
The overnight bus: 17 hours, ฿1,100
A combined bus-and-ferry service runs from Bangkok in 17 to 18 hours for around ฿1,100 (US$36). Buses leave Bangkok in the evening with reclining seats, so the first stretch doubles as your night’s sleep, then you transfer to a boat for the run into Saladan Pier.
At ฿1,100 it isn’t dramatically cheaper than a budget flight plus a minivan once you price both properly, and it costs you the better part of two days. It’s a defensible choice if you’d otherwise pay for a hotel night and you sleep well on buses. For most people, the flight wins.
Which should you pick?
Morning flight to Krabi, then the ฿300-450 minivan. Cheap, simple, and you’re on the island by mid-afternoon.
Add the speedboat if you want to skip the car-ferry queue or you’re arriving in peak season.
Take the overnight bus only if the budget is genuinely tight.
Whatever you book, check the arrival time against that 13:00 minivan cutoff before you pay for anything.
